Meat Beat Manifesto - Original Fire
(05/09/2003)

Genre: Techno

Meat Beat Manifesto's "Original Fire" is exactly that: a compilation of their best, older works.

I'm personally a great fan of MBM. It's very hard-hitting, jittery techno that inspires crude, distorted imagery. Very creepy, very surreal. As for genre, I have no freaking idea, as there are just way too many genres for me to possibly be familiar with, and their names don't seem to have any immediate connection with what they sound like. Crap.

Anyways, like I said, this is supposed to be a compiliation of their older works. They have quite a bit to choose from, because they've been around since '89, or something. They have about eight or ten CDs out, most of which are full albums, if my memory serves me well.

Now, MBM is one of those rare groups that age has some strange adaptative effect on. Listening to this CD, one can definitely tell that their style has changed significantly since the days of yore, but it hasn't gotten worse--or better. I really have to say that this is on par with their stuff today. Sure, you can tell that this is more primitive stuff, technology-wise, but I find the tracks on "Original Fire" to be just as entertaining to listen to as, say, "Actual Sounds + Voices."

Regardless, age definitly has not harmed this stuff significantly. If anything, it gives kind of a classic, old-school feel with the older tracks. Anyways, definitely worth buying, if you're a fan of... whatever genre these guys are.

Cool Hand Luke gives Meat Beat Manifesto's "Original Fire"

Four cigarettes. Not a masterpiece, but definitely worth checking out, especially if you already like them.

What the other gods think:
I think these guys have an extremely strange name. Though, it somehow fits.
